"The Flight" a SCAD senior film project
 Designed and Created Flying machine
"The Flight is about a girl named Athena. Athena is a slave in a post apocalyptic society. This society is the only society in a world otherwise completely covered in ocean. One day Athena breaks into her town’s library of illegal materials and finds a book with a drawing of a flying machine. This inspires her to work day and night, to create the flying machine and key to her freedom." Director Jenn Bird. This flying machine was a very interesting project for me. I had never worked with bamboo up to this point and was unsure how to bend it, connect in to each other, or its overall material limitations. I first began with a wire model of what I envisioned to be a rustic flying machine that would be able to be created in a post apocalyptic society. Originally I thought we would be able to obtain thick pieces of bamboo which would enable us to drill wholes and place thinner pieces to create the frame. We obtained our bamboo from a nearby bamboo farm and the thickest diameter we could find was 3/4 of an inch. So, realizing our predicament, I came up with  the solution of lashing the bamboo with thin twine. After the frame was created, I attached a canvas cloth. The machine portion consisted of gears, a leather bag, an area in which smoke can be extracted from the bag ( metal valve on top), a spark plug cover and lines. We recovered a lot of our materials from thrift shops and junk yards. Overall, this experience showed me the benefits of collaborating with different areas of expertise.
